Beirut, February 19th, 2008 - Bank Audi’s “Patrouille des Cèdres”: Fostering Peace in the Land of the Cedars
Today, Bank Audi seeks to foster peace, comradeship and teamwork in the Land of the Cedars, contributing to the promotion of this beloved country through its exceptionally beautiful resources.
A press conference was held at the Bank’s headquarters on February 19, 2008, to announce the “Patrouille des Cèdres” (PDC), a unique backcountry ski race proudly organised by Bank Audi sal – Audi Saradar Group, in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy in Lebanon.
This event is inspired by the famous “Patrouille des Glaciers” which has been organized by the Swiss Army in the Alps for the past sixty-four years, and is known as the most difficult and extreme backcountry ski race in the world.
The first edition of the race will take place in the picturesque Kfardebian mountains on Saturday, March 8, 2008.
With the “Patrouille des Cèdres”, the Lebanese mountains will unveil their marvels through Bank Audi’s authentic testimony that nothing is ever out of reach when there is a strong will to succeed.
The PDC targets avid skiers who will compete in two distinct categories: Civilian and Military.
Several teams from the Alpine Contingent of the Lebanese Army have already pledged to take part, alongside teams from the Swiss and Italian Mountain Troops. As for the civilian category, it is open to all local and international ski enthusiasts, among whom several student teams from Lebanon and abroad.
The start and finish of the 2008 PDC will take place at an altitude of 1700 meters, in the charming region of Faqra-Kfardebian. Participants, in teams of two, are expected to ski through some 14 kilometers across the mountains, totaling 2500 meters of positive and negative ascent while tagging technical passages and peaks, the highest of which is the Mzaar at 2460 meters above sea level.
The press conference was yet another occasion for Maxime Chaya – Bank Audi’s Corporate Ambassador – to remind the audience that “there is an Everest for everyone, and its journey starts in the homeland”.
